Perpetual Emotion

Project Proposal

For my project, I’ve decided to combine the skills I’ve learned in a variety of ALC classes, including, creative writing, philosophy, religion, and audio media to create what I am calling an “essay mixtape”. This project will be a combination of a podcast composed of my own written works and a playlist of songs I think pair well with my topics. My goal is to create an immersive experience of poetry, creative writing, my thoughts and experiences, and music I love.

I want to use this project to tell stories and share ideas that revolve around one central premise: what does it mean to live the human experience? While thousands of answers are possible, I’ve given this idea some thought for years. Personally, I think that to live the human experience is to embrace one’s own humanity, registering emotions based on a multitude of actions and experiences throughout one’s life. To be human is to be conscious of our humanity, and to feel a plurality of constantly flowing and evolving emotions. In light of this overarching thesis, I have decided to call this project “Perpetual Emotion”. I’ve divided the project into 6 chapters, all based on different various emotions and states: humility, trauma, connection, isolation, creativity, and wisdom. My primary reason for doing this is because, at least in an academic context, this will be my final creative and artistic project.

Starting in the fall, I’ll be majoring in Political Science and Journalism at Concordia, and although there is some creativity involved in writing, it’s nothing like what I’ve gotten the chance to do in ALC at Dawson. I want to make something big and important that utilizes my creative skills and that will differ greatly from what I’ll be working on for the next few years. For this project, I already possess all the materials I need to make it work, I’ve established a timeframe to accomplish it, and I have prior experience in podcasting and creative writing.

In conclusion, I want to take listeners on a journey through a variety of mental states and emotional periods in my life and their own, as well as create narratives and concepts that capture my connections with the world surrounding me.
