Artist's Statement
I think that one of the most important things a person can do in their life is explore. Whether it be the world, your neighbourhood, your mind, or a higher state of being, exploration is the first step into a greater universe. My personal medium of choice is the written word, but my true strength lies in public speaking. There is something so magical about hearing the explorations and journeys of another person through the authentic tone, cadence, and energy of their own voice.
My favourite thing about the human voice is that it is an incredible conveyor of emotion. You can read the greatest lines of the greatest poem ever written, and you’d still be let down if it were not read in the proper manner. The beauty of the voice is that it carries such an immense weight of emotion and never ceases to do so. Personally, I like to use my voice whenever I can. If you asked me to sing, I’d probably burst your eardrums. But reading a story? Sharing my emotions? That is what I do best. For this specific project, I will be writing about a wide range of issues relating to society, politics, personal anecdotes, philosophical lessons, and conversations about higher states of being. I like combining traditional essay-style writing alongside creative writing, resulting in a collage of emotions and styles. My project, entitled “Perpetual Emotion”, a podcast playlist filled with my writings and favourite songs, covers an entire range of these topics, all entered around the depth of human emotion.
Through my art, I write about what matters to me, and I deliver it in a way that is meant to connect to you. Nothing connects people like a conversation, and I hope that I can use this spot – my final project here at Dawson College – as the highest and mightiest diving board to dive into the full depth of human emotion and experience through the narrations of my writings. Enjoy the project!
